American Idol: Top 3 Perform

While the competition has gotten a little too predictable at this point, the American Idol Top 3 all sang with everything they had with hopes of making it to the big show — next week’s finale.

You could see the exhaustion on their faces. They all just returned from trips to their hometowns for concerts, parades and celebrations galore. David Cook, Syesha Mercado and David Archuleta have given just about every ounce of themselves. Tonight was no exception, though the song choices remained a mystery — that’s something that’s been a running theme this season.

There’s no question David Cook secured his spot in the finale. Without question, and I’ve been saying this for several weeks, he needs to be crowned the Season 7 winner. His overall performances tonight were well above the competition in many ways. Plus, he’s obviously being groomed for the prize.

Going into tonight, Syesha didn’t have a chance. It seems everything about the show has been playing to the favor of the Davids. And, if truth be told, Syesha kind of showed the younger David she’s not messing around. But, I think it’s a classic case of too little, too late. Die-hard fans are devoted to Archuleta. Plus, they probably feel bad for him after his dad’s inappropriate behavior  in recent weeks.

Truly, I thought Syesha gave her best performance of the season with Randy Jackson’s choice of an Alicia Keys song. She was totally in her zone. I didn’t think her version of Fever was too bad, either. In fact, I liked that she played to her acting strengths and had fun with it.

As far as David Archuleta, he probably should not try to sing radio hits from Chris Brown. It wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t “wow.” As far as the rest of his performances, they kind of all sound the same, at this point.

Now David Cook, that’s a different story. He brings his own sound to every performance. His influences certainly shined through when he chose to sing a song from Switchfoot. That’s his groove, and it’s certainly the type of tunes I think we’ll be able to expect on his debut CD. Because, even if he doesn’t win, Cook is guaranteed a recording contract.

When it comes down to it, I think we’ll be seeing our first David-off in the finale. There’s no real question, there. But I would love to see Syesha take one of the Top 2 spots. She has proven herself throughout this season, even though the rough patches.

A Big Night!

Tonight is a big night for the final 3 and for American Idol. As you know, the top 3 retruned home last week and performed in front of their hometown crowds. It really shows the impact the show has on the world and how many people are involved and rooting for their favorite. Emotions will be at an all time high this week. David Archuleta cried while performing for his hometown in Utah. ... It's about 3's this week. 3 performers, 3 phone lines to call and 3 songs for every contestant (a first for the final 3.) ... One thing is for certain, Idol can show off to the world that they still have the talent if the Idols pull off their performances tongiht. It's going to be a night to remember ..... 2 and 1/2 hours and counting!

American Idols: Top Rated Show

American Idol is an American televised singing competition, which began its first season on June 11, 2002. Part of the Idol franchise, it originated from the reality program Pop Idol created by British entertainment executive Simon Fuller, which was first aired in 2001 in the United Kingdom. The program seeks to discover the greatest young singer in the country through a series of nationwide auditions. The outcomes of the later stages of this competition are determined by public voting by phone. The format features three judges who give critiques of the contestants' performances in order to facilitate the voting: record producer Randy Jackson; pop singer and choreographer Paula Abdul; and record executive Simon Cowell. The show is hosted by former children's game show emcee and television personality Ryan Seacrest; comedian Brian Dunkleman cohosted with Seacrest in season one. The American Idol band is led by Rickey Minor. The show usually airs on Tuesday and Wednesday nights in the US and Thursday and Friday nights in the UK (two days after the US airing). In its six seasons, its six winners have been Kelly Clarkson, Ruben Studdard, Fantasia Barrino, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, and Jordin Sparks, respectively. The first five American Idols are from the Southern United States of America (U.S) and the sixth, Jordin Sparks, is from the Southwest. Hicks was the oldest winner at 29, Sparks the youngest at just 17.

Currently American Idol season 7 is televised on Fox in the United States, CTV in Canada, FOX8 in Australia, ITV2 in the UK, Global TV in Indonesia, TV3 Ireland in Ireland, Star World in several parts of Asia and on QTV11 in the Philippines.
